Nazi demonstration in Sweden. One of the most robust and financially healthy democracies in the world. Once again nazis and racists used my face to project their hate. I’ve been their target for more than 20 years now. The only reason is I stand up for human rights and equality. Against racism and sexism and all kinds of extremism.
As a freelance journalist, a woman and a single mother I feel unprotected. Without employers, big organisations or police backing me I have to handle this alone. It’s a daily struggle on many levels. Words have consequences. They can easily turn into actions. Which they have too many times in recent years around the world. My solidarity and support to other colleagues that have been exposed to these kind of attacks. Most of all to the Holocaust-survivor Emerich Roth who once again had to witness this misanthropy. To the tens of thousands who were demonstrating against racism and nazism this Saturday – you are my heroes. And to you all – never forget that silence is violence. Raise your voice. Show solidarity and courage. Don’t let them silence you.
